Manghopir Lake in Karachi , Crocodile Lake

Manghopir or Mangopir (Urdu: منگھوپیر) is one of the neighbourhoods of Gadap Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan[1].

There are several ethnic groups in Manghopir including Muhajirs, Sindhis, Punjabis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras,Ismailis, etc. Over 99% of the population is Muslim. The population of Gadap Town is estimated to be nearly one million.

Manghopir is a rural area of Karachi, named after Sufi Pir Haji Syed Sakhi Sultan. The area has the oldest Sufi shrines in the city, hot sulphur springs that are believed to have curative powers, and many crocodiles - believed locally to be the sacred disciples of Pir Mangho.[citation needed]Balochs often call this place as ‘Mangi’ or Garm-aab / Sard-aab (due to the presence of the hot & cold springs).
